FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS

Q: What does it mean to be a Buddhist?

A: A Buddhist, broadly speaking, is someone who practices the inner path, meaning "working with their own mind." More specifically, it is someone who has embraced the philosophy and practice of one of the numerous Buddhist traditions and is actively practicing Buddhist ethics, outlook, conduct, and meditation.

Q: Do you have to be a Buddhist to meditate?

A: No, the practice of meditation is open to everyone. There is only one condition: you need an awareness. If you have consciousness, you can meditate.

Q: Do you have to be a Buddhist to take your classes?

A: No, my courses and practice evenings are open to everyone, Buddhist or not. Just join the event and see if you like it. Everything else will develop naturally and progressively.

Q: Which Buddhist tradition do you belong to?

A: I am part of the Karma Kagyu school of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Q: Who are your teachers?

A: My teachers are 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje, 14th Shamarpa Künsig Shamar Mipham Chökyi Lodro and Jigme Rinpoche.

Q: Where did you do retreat?

A: I lived as a monk and completed my retreats in the monastery of Karmapa, Dhagpo Kundreul Ling (France).

Q: Are you a Lama?

A: No, my Tibetan Buddhist title is "Drupla". "Lama" means one who teaches in Tibetan. However, to teach or not to teach does not affect the Drupla title as in this case it is one who has completed one or more traditional 3 year retreats and received and practiced the appropriate transmissions.

In my case I have completed the cycle of a 3-year-retreat 4 times, totaling over 12 years in seclusion.

Q: Why do you teach?

A: After I completed the retreats, I was asked by my teachers to teach the Dharma. All courses and practices that I teach or lead are with the blessing of my teachers.

Q: Are your courses mandatory?

A: Even though the different courses I give are a series of lectures that build on each other and regular attendance makes it easier to follow the topics. However, spontaneous and irregular participation as well as lateral entry are possible at any time.

Q: What means "Payment: At your own discretion" for your courses?

A: See Payment at your own discretion.
